Welcome, caregivers. We honor and salute you!

Hospice of the Valley works with thousands of caregivers every day. Caring for someone with serious illness is one of the toughest things in life. There are decisions about day-to-day living and preparations to be made for the future. These responsiblities are interwoven with a sense of grief and loss.

Caregiving for Persons With Dementia

There are special challenges in caring for someone with dementia (Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewi body dementia). Hospice of the Valley tries to improve the quality of life of the caregiver and the person with dementia. This is accomplished by teaching ways to encourage positive behavior, managing medication and through massage, music, and pets.

  • Hospice Dementia Program – for patients with advanced dementia. Admission criteria may include speech limited to a few words; assistance with walking; incontinence or steady weight loss.
  • H.O.M.E. (Helping Our Memory Impaired Elders) Program – an 8-12 week educational home health program for persons at any stage of dementia and their families and caregivers. This requires Medicare insurance (no managed care).
