To assist direct care providers, HOV has developed a dementia tool box, which includes the S.O.S. (Stimulation of Senses) kit of items to deploy for sensory stimulation, educational videos, a sing-a-long CD with lyrics, and the "Joining the Journey: A Guide to Dementia Comfort Care."
Since family caregivers experience a prolonged sense of loss and grief during the slow progression of dementia, a Caregiver Grief program has also been developed. Social workers focus on identifying and intervening in grief prior to death, known as anticipatory grief. Educational programs are routinely offered to HOV dementia family caregivers, allowing them to learn effective ways to cope and to connect with other families.
