Comfort Care

Although hospice professionals are experts at palliative care, understanding the needs of a person who can no longer talk requires even more knowledge and skills. Persons with dementia tell us in different ways if they are frightened, in pain, depressed or unsure of a situation. Hospice of the Valley staff have been trained to assess behaviors for the underlying causes, so that we may provide care that improves comfort and quality of life--the hallmarks of hospice care. We do this by truly knowing the person, adjusting our pace and approach to his or her needs and abilities, and using appropriate medications.
