Palliative Care: The active total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, including control of pain, other symptoms, and psychological, social, and spiritual problems. World Health Organization
ENHANCE YOUR SKILLS: Learn state-of-the-art palliative care. This one-of-a-kind fellowship teaches clergy and chaplains to more effectively communicate with patients with life-limiting illnesses and how to deal with the ethical dilemmas that inevitably arise in end-of-life care.
Those accepted into the Palliative Clergy and Chaplain Fellowship Program will spend two days walking the walk with patients on hospice and the interdisciplinary team that serves them. The two days will consist of a half-day orientation on basic palliative medicine topics; a half-day with a palliative care social worker on a home visit; a half-day in a hospice inpatient unit; and a session to explore, share, and integrate your walk with hospice. In addition, you will complete on-line learning modules to strengthen your skills. You will receive 12 CEs/contact hours, and a certificate of completion.
The field and PCU visits will require traveling to various parts of Maricopa County.
Next Fellowship - Thursday, June 10th and Friday, June 11th.
