Inpatient Locations
While more than 90% of Hospice of the Valley´s patients are served in their own homes, our Palliative Care Units (PCU) are for patients whose needs or the needs of their family can be better met in an inpatient setting. These stays are most often viewed as a transitional time to control symptoms until the patient can return home or can be cared for in a less medically acute setting.
Fees for services provided in the PCU vary based on rates that are established by Medicare and other insurance plans. When general inpatient care or respite care is needed, Medicare and many insurance plans reimburse for all expenses related to the hospice PCU stay. Medicare and insurance plans do not reimburse for routine care in PCUs, so those costs become the responsibility of the patient/family. A social worker will assist the patient and family in identifying ways to resolve financial issues.
