Appropriateness of Medications
The Hospice of the Valley Medical Director will review all medications to make certain that drugs commonly prescribed will not increase confusion or memory deficits, contribute to falls or otherwise worsen issues associated with dementia. Hospice providers are aware of the impact of the disease on the person with dementia (such as the inability to verbally express pain, behavioral disturbances and changes in sleep patterns) and are knowledgeable as to when and how to medicate. There are medications which can control pain or calm anxieties without aggravating symptoms of dementia.
