Pet Connections Program

Pet Connections Program

You and your best friend can become part of Hospice of the Valley’s Pet Connections program.  Pet teams typically visit with patients up to two hours per week in many different settings: our inpatient hospice homes, skilled nursing facilities, group homes, and patients’ private homes.  Hospice of the Valley serves numerous communities in Maricopa and Pinal counties, including Scottsdale, Wickenburg, Casa Grande and Sacaton. We strive to provide assignments as close to home as possible.

Great therapy animals need only an interest in people, basic obedience skills, a gentle nature, and the ability to work well with their like-minded human team member.  No tricks or pedigrees are required, and any domestic breed will generally do.  We accept dogs, cats, rabbits and miniature horses into our Pet Connections program.  Pet teams are evaluated and registered by national pet therapy organizations, which recognize the temperament and skills required to be a safe and loving presence to our patients.

Volunteers are required to complete a comprehensive training program prior to any patient assignment. Click here for a listing of upcoming training classes and to complete an application. For questions about the Pet Connections program, please contact a pet team coordinator in your area:
