Grief Speak: Teen Grief DVD and Booklet

11/1/2008

Hospice of the Valley has produced a new informational booklet about how teenagers grieve that is designed for, about and by teens. It features a “teen friendly” full-color booklet in language that is targeted at adolescents and useful for adults. Attached to the back cover is a seven-minute DVD produced by teens at Centennial High School in Peoria, under the direction of Stacia Ortega, volunteer services director at Hospice of the Valley, and Marcia Fogelsong Maish, a consultant.

The innovative booklet and DVD are believed to be unique in the field of teen grief. They would be appropriate for families preparing to lose a loved one as well as for bereaved teens and families. Topics include Secondary Losses; Sudden vs. Expected Death; Losing a Brother, Sister or Friend; Teen vs. Adult Grief; and How Adults Can Help Teens. The resource costs $20. Preview and order it from Stacia Ortega, 602.530.6987, sortega@hov.org. For more information, view the Grief Speak link on hov.org.
