Volunteers are valued members of the Hospice of the Valley team. You can make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families while adding meaning to your own life. 

Patient Care

Provide respite for caregivers, visit and read with patients, run errands and offer emotional support to HOV patients. Volunteers receive additional training to provide dementia care such as singing to these very special patients. Volunteers may also provide these services for individuals being served by Arizona Palliative Home Care

Pet Connections

Do you and your pet have the right qualities to be a pet therapy team? We accept dogs, cats, rabbits and miniature horses into our Pet Connections program. 

11th Hour Companion
Receive additional training to sit at the bedside of a patient who is near death through our 11th Hour Program.

Teen Volunteers
Offer support and companionship to patients in supervised settings. Learn more about Teen Volunteer opportunities.

Teens in Nursing 
High school students interested in nursing careers volunteer in hospice home settings under the direction of a certified nursing assistant. The program prepares students for employment and enhances scholarship opportunities. Click here to request information. 

Ryan House
Be a greeter, a game player, a reader and a good listener to children with life-threatening conditions and their families staying at Ryan House in central Phoenix.

Bereavement Phone Support
Support caregivers after a death by making bereavement calls offering sympathy, information and resources.

Music Partners
Play recordings, an instrument or sing to patients. Or participate in the "Voices Lifted" choir that sings to patients at various facilities.

New Song Center for Grieving Children
Facilitate support groups for children, teens and the adults who care for them. Volunteers also speak to community groups, provide office support and help raise money. Learn more.

Kivel-Hospice of the Valley Jewish End-of-Life Program
Speciallly trained volunteers assist with Shabbat ceremonies on Friday evenings. The ritual includes electric candles, kosher grape juice and challah bread, offered with prayers, music and readings.

HOV Salutes Veterans Program
Volunteers who are veterans receive special training to visit and honor our veteran patients. Learn more.  

Hispanic Volunteer Program
Bilingual volunteers lend support and companionship to Spanish-speaking patients with understanding of bicultural customs and practices. See our Spanish-language volunteer page for information in Spanish.

Clerical Support
Give clerical assistance such as filing, data entry, labeling and mailing at the agency’s offices Valley wide.

Special Events Support
Assist with the agency’s fund-raising and community events.

Speakers Bureau
Speak to community groups about services and programs offered by Hospice of the Valley.

White Dove Thrift Shoppe
Assist customers, organize and display clothing, furniture, art and other merchandise at The White Dove Thrift Shoppe, with locations in Phoenix and Scottsdale.

Wrap Pack
Following the death of an HOV patient, Wrap Pack volunteers help pack items from the patient’s home that the family would like to donate to the White Dove Thrift Shoppes.

Wrap Up and Cuddle
Talented sewers and knitters, working in groups or individually, provide handmade items such as bibs, pillows, stuffed bears, foley covers, and items to provide comfort to dementia patients.
